Diplomacy World Deadline Reminder

Just as a reminder, the deadline for submissions for this issue is tomorrow, July 1st.  If you plan on sending something please let me know so I can plan for it.

The following issue, with a deadline of October 1st, will be our full Jim Burgess tribute issue.  Please be sure to send letters, comments, articles, and tributes to me at diplomacyworld@yahoo.com whenever you have them finished.  I’d truly like to make that a special issue, for obvious reasons.

James Burgess

I am heartbroken to report that James Burgess has apparently lost his long battle with cancer. My condolences go out to Charlotte and his family and friends. I promised Jim-Bob that I would try my best to keep Diplomacy World going if the worst should happen, despite how much I leaned on him for support in that regard. Jim-Bob will be missed in so many ways.

Calhamer Estate Sale and eBay Items

This message came in from Kim Chmura

Hello – I’m looking to spread the word about an upcoming estate sale at the home of Diplomacy inventor Allan Calhamer, April 7 through 9, 2017 in LaGrange Park, IL.  In addition there are several items on ebay (found by searching “Calhamer” with more to be added throughout the week) that might be of interest to Diplomacy enthusiasts unable to attend the sale, including #1 of 500 of the 1st edition of the game!  I see that you have a deadline of 4/1 for your upcoming newsletter which will probably be published after all of this is over.  I’m currently trying to join a few Diplomacy facebook groups.  Any help or suggestions that you could provide to get the word out would be appreciated!

Thank you!

Fred C. Davis, Jr.

I am saddened to be the one to spread the news of the passing of Fred C. Davis, Jr.  after a long battle with Parkinsons and other health issues.  He died on the night of  October 3rd.  His wife Inge would read every issue of Diplomacy World to him from the copies I sent her for that purpose, and it remained a true joy in his life.  It helped him to feel connected to the hobby he was no longer able to participate in directly.  Diplomacy was always his passion.
